The purpose and scope of the meeting is to provide a platform to meet top experts and established scientists in the field, discuss the recent developments and significant gaps in thermophiles research, exchange new concepts and methodologies and promote new cooperation.  We hope this conference will provide inspiring and inclusive atmosphere with an excellent opportunity for PhD students and early carriers scientists to meet and interact with experts from over the world.

Tours - 16th International Thermophiles Conference

Date: 9:30 and 10:30 - 14:30 1st September 2023 

We have three tours on offer for you to enjoy the magnificent landscape and history of North Wales. Choose either a steam train tour, a Castle and walking tour of Caernarfon or a Boat Trip.  Places are limited, so please do book early to avoid disappointment. 

1. Steam train tour by Gelert Explorer (£33 per person), start at 10:30

Enjoy a trip on a narrow-gauge steam train trip from the historic town of Caernarfon.  Experience the breath-taking views of Snowdon and Llyn Cwellyn as you travel to and from Beddgelert.  Here you will have 90 min to explore its picturesque buildings clustered around the confluence of the Colwyn and Glaslyn rivers.

2. Caernarfon Castle and Walk - visit Caernarfon Castle and enjoy a guided walking tour around the historic town of Caernarfon (£31 per person), start at 9:30

Experience the town of Caernarfon by foot where you can take in its history from the Celtic and Roman period, to the medieval conquest of Wales by Edward I Longshanks of England, who built the great castle and town walls we see in Caernarfon today – some of the most expensive and impressive fortifications in Europe at their time as reflected in their UNESCO world heritage status.

3. Boat Trip by the Queen of the Sea from Caernarfon to Britannia and Menai Bridges (£20 per person), start at 9:30

Enjoy 2 hours trip on a boat exploring magnificent Menai Straits.

Tickets include return coach fair to Bangor.
