Coloured overlays are sheets of translucent or transparent coloured plastic that can be placed over a page of a text so as to colour the paper beneath without interfering with its clarity.  Coloured overlays reduce the perceptual distortions of text that students sometimes describe.

Reading rulers are smaller versions of the A4 coloured overlays, whilst also containing a 'band' to enable the student to focus on the line being read.
